Optimisation

Search engine optimisation is the act of writing or re-writing a webpage to be more accessible to and rank higher in the search results pages (SERP) of the major search engines. Having a webpage appear near the top of the search results will usually mean that more people will see it and visit your website. Most users don't look through page after page of search results. The better the page ranking, the more visitors generated. For any business website, this means more potential customers.

1. A series of operations that can be performed periodically to keep a computer in optimum shape. Optimization is done by running a maintenance check, scanning for viruses, and de fragmenting the hard disk. Norton Utilities is one program used for optimizing.

2. Optimization of Web pages and images is performed by subjecting them to image and file compression techniques. File compression decreases load time to improve performance.

OPTIMIZATION is the process of improving website performance to its maximum state. Terminology used for maximizing would also apply. Each search engine has a unique way to rank webpages. It is impossible "to be all things, to all search engines" on a given webpage. Having each webpage on your website dedicated to a single topic, with 1 or 2 keyphrases featured, will generally achieve "the best ranking" results on most SERP(s) for your website's topic information.
